The country’s largest new car event of the year is back and bigger before! Burnpavement takes you through the 20+ new models making their debut in Singapore this year.


The A4 has consistently been Audi’s volume seller and as such is one of its most important models. Now in its 5th generation, the car is underpinned by the latest evolution of the MLB platform matrix (the longitudinal version of the VW Group’s transverse MQB matrix), and is up to 120kg lighter than its predecessor. For our market, the A4 will come in 1.4 TFSI guise with 150hp, and features an updated interior with an improved MMI infotainment system (that supports Apple CarPlay) as well as the Audi Virtual Cockpit, a fully digital 12.3-inch screen that can display navigation and entertainment info in the instrument cluster. BP — The previous 3 generations of MX-5 had a design that was quite cute, rounded and smiley, which clearly evolved over the years. Why then did the ND's styling suddenly change to something quite aggressive and angry? Nakayama — Of course, compared to the previous generations, the design is more aggressive, but I personally believe the most important thing is not how it compares to the older cars. When you look at the car without prior knowledge about the previous models, whether it is beautiful or aggressive or not, is not the most important thing. I believe that when we introduced the first-generation model, among all the players in the industry, car design had certain tendencies. So maybe every player had a much more pretty or softer face. But now, so many players have a much more aggressive face and complex design. So I think that compared to the other players today, the design is not that aggressive.

In the second of this two-part series, we sat down with the new MX-5’s Chief Designer to learn more about the car’s drastic change in appearance, and the role designers play in creating a new car.


Dr Co’s daily drive is a Jaguar XF S Diesel 3.0, which is undoubtedly a rather unconventional choice. The reasons for this choice? “Hands down, the brilliant fuel economy and torque available that drew me to the car”. For the curious, this diesel XF has 275 bhp and a whopping 600 Nm worth of torque on tap, does the 0 to 100 km/h run in 6 seconds and has a top speed of 250 km/h. All that coming from a 3-litre 6-cylinder turbodiesel powerplant mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

From Zhuhai, the Cup heads to the Korea International Circuit in South Korea, prior to making its debut in Chinese Taipei, at the Penbay International Circuit. From there, the Cup travels to Malaysia in August, prior to marking another first for the series with two race weekends in support of the FIA World Endurance Championship. At Fuji from October 10 to 11 and at the Audi R8 LMS Cup season finale in Shanghai from October 31 to November 1, fans of the brand with the Four Rings will have a chance to see the Audi motorsport family unite, with the Cup and the Audi Sport WEC team racing alongside each other.

More than 52,000 visitors (children excluded) came to experience more than 150 cars on display at the recently concluded Singapore Motorshow 2015.


What I’m talking about, of course is kart racing. Not just any old kart race mind you, but one of the first races to be held at the new KF1 Karting Circuit. Yup, 72 crazy sods, including yours truly, had an opportunity to race on the new track a whole week before its grand opening! Call us pioneers, testers, guinea pigs, whatever; what better way to break in a new track than through the crucible of motorsport?

So 2013 was an eventful year for the local motoring industry: An introduction and implementation of new policies, changes in classification of new cars, and the list goes on.


In fact, the car has been widely received, with quite a number of orders already placed for Mercedes-Benz's latest version of its flagship luxury limousine. Three variants will be made available namely the S400 HYBRID, S500 and S350 BlueTEC. All models boast class-leading efficiency and up to 20 percent lower fuel consumption than the outgoing model series, with the engines meeting the requirements of the Euro 6 emissions standard. In addition to this, the S400 HYBRID and S350 BlueTEC meet the strict criteria of efficiency class A.

From the onset, the car impresses with its dashing good looks. The pre-facelift model was already a looker, but Mercedes obviously felt that the staid quad-headlamp setup was getting old, so they've revamped it with a modern and sleek singular design with integrated LEDs, while the rear tail lamps also get a refresh with new LEDs. Very nice.

Sit yourself inside the Cayman, and you'll find that this is one sports car that is easy to get comfortable in. It may be low slung, but the seats are comfortable and visibility all round is excellent. Materials used in the cabin are of high quality - what else would you expect from the Germans. That being said, the Boxster S we have in our company stable is starting to show signs or wear, even the plastic areas we hardly come into contact with are beginning to scratch off. No chance of a long term test with this Cayman though, so we wouldn't know how it's interior will stand the test of time.
